Jingle Bells

Did you know that Jingle Bells was actually written for Thanksgiving? If you look, there isn't a single mention of Christmas in the song.

According to most sources, this wonderful wintertime song was written by a minister named James Lord Pierpoint and premiered at a Thanksgiving Day service. The song was so popular, it was performed again at Christmastime and became a popular tradition for that time of year!

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot
